Gone Fishing.

Here's a little indication of what I'll be *trying* my best to do until summertime. Lots of reading and many cups of tea. I very much like studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics. I like to think about things, to wrestle with problems and consider solutions. It breaks my heart that people's chances in life are so heavily dependent on the circumstances into which they were born.

So I am hoping that my propensity to laziness will not be a barrier to my engagement with academia in these last few months. This post is to let you know that there won't be many pictures on here for a while :o( But I am hoping that my research and writing will inspire me to try out different kinds of photography :o) I'll stop by now and then and let you know how the essay writing is going!

Hannah Starkey

Rozi and I went to see a photography exhibition at Warwick Arts Centre the other week. The photographer in question was Hannah Starkey (see some of her work here). Her work is incredible - such beautiful photographs. I love looking at other people's work and wondering, how on earth did they do that? Some photographs happen almost as if by chance - everything comes together, the light simply works. What struck me about Hannah's work was that her photographs are so carefully constructed.

I was also inspired by her use of artificial lighting. I like natural light, a lot. I love it how it's never the same. That is also a curse. I was attracted to Hannah's control of the situation, and the marvellous way she plays with light in her photographs. If you ever get a chance to see her work displayed anywhere, take it!

Yesterday, the two of us (that would be me and Rozi again) went to McDonalds for lunch. This is not a regular occurrence for us (which is a good job, because our meals came in at a little over 1100 calories... yep, seriously). I thought before we left that it might be a good environment to try out some Hannah Starkey style photography and it turned out pretty cool. We got a fair number of odd looks but I think it was worth it. The last photo is of me(!), and the wonderful Rozi took it

I'm not sure what it is about this first shot that I love so much, but I am seriously tempted to get it printed and mounted in a frame with a big white surround. Maybe I will.

I hope you're having a lovely week. We're halfway there already!

Take Two

Happy Valentine's Day everyone ♥

I'm really looking forward to today. I'm not going to do any work. I am going to clean the house, do LOTS of baking and spend the evening with some of my favourite people. Also, the sky is so blue today, it's difficult not to think that spring really is just around the corner :o)

As promised, here are some of the 'proper' edits of the pictures I took on Saturday. I think this first one is my favourite :o)

I hope that this Valentine's Day is a good one for you, that you get to spend some time with the people that you love ♥

Becca

I like that recently, I have made decisions that mean photography will not be out of my life any time soon. Photography is what I do for fun, and I've decided that shooting for fun is important. So today I grabbed a good friend of mine, Becca. I like Becca a lot. She is a beautiful person inside and out. Genuinely caring for people and a lot of fun to be with :o) I've been thinking about my post processing style a lot lately. I still haven't nailed it. So in the mean time a little experimentation is called for. I simply put these pictures through a polaroid generator - not very imaginative I know! I'll post my *slightly more effort put into* colour edits soon.

I hope you are having an excellent weekend!

I heart tuesdays

I don't have much time for photo taking these days which is why yesterday was so much fun. Hanging out with Rozi is my favourite and when the light is pretty it's hard to resist spending a few moments taking some pictures. When they work out like these did, it reminds me how much I love photography. I hope you're having a good week

Sparkle

I have a confession. We didn't have a real Christmas tree this year (that is not my confession, but for sure, we're getting a real one next year!) and on the 4th February 2011 our tree is still in our living room. It is coming down tonight. This is the kind of person that I am. I can't live with the pattern that lots of work brings. You wake up, eat, work, eat, sleep and the pattern continues. Thank fully my life does not look like this at the moment. I am fully aware that photography has to take a back seat for a while but I can't shut it out of my life. So I gave myself ten minutes to do something fun with my camera.

One thing I love about Christmas is the lights. I just love the bokeh that you get shooting fairy lights! So I thought it was fitting that today, I had some fun with the fairy lights from the tree before they go back in their box.

I hope you have a great weekend!

Katy

I haven't blogged in a while. I haven't taken many pictures lately. Life is manic and this is not meant to be my full time occupation... But I miss it. Tonight I wasn't really feeling the whole "do some reading and then wash up" vibe so I decided to go back over some pictures I took in October. These pictures have a special place in my heart because they were the first I took after getting my hands on a 50mm 1.8. That was a fun day. Realising there are so many more possibilities, learning new angles and ways of using the light. I am very much still learning but shooting those first pictures of my beautiful, beautiful little sister made me excited about photography. I think she got a little tired of the phrase "just one more" by the end of the day!
